The first Washington Township Bravest vs. Finest Charity Football game raised funds for the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- The township's police department narrowly beat their fellow first responders, the township's fire department, in a charity football game on Sunday. 

The 1st Washington Township Bravest vs. Finest Charity Football game was held on Nov. 29 at Tom Brown Field in an effort to raise funds for a cause of the winning department's choosing, according to a media release.

With township schools' Superintendent Joe Bollendorf announcing, the firefighters fought to stay in the lead for the majority of the game before a touchdown in its last minute put the police on top. 

A last minute attempt by the fire department to score a final time was thwarted by the officers, who gained possession just before the clock ran out. 

The final score was 27-26, allowing the police to choose Children's Hospital of Philadelphia as the recipient of the $700 raised during the game. Organizers aim to expand the game next year with an eye on growing it into a community-wide tradition.
