MONROE TWP. -- The Federal Emergency Management Administration has awarded a $22,728 Assistance to Firefighters Grant to Williamstown Fire Company, officials announced.
The funds, which the company applied for in December 2014, will be used to replace a 34-year-old air compressor used to fill SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) bottles used by firefighters, according to fire officials.
The new unit should be in service late this year or early next year.
"This is a win-win, because the fire company receives better equipment without a financial burden on the taxpayers" Assistant Chief Jim Jacobi noted in a release. "I would like to thank Chief Mike Jacobi for making this possible. This is yet another accomplishment for the fire company during his tenure as chief."
