Rowan University hosted the SeaPerch robot competition on Sunday giving more than 250 students a chance to test out their robots in the pool.

GLASSBORO -- The Rowan University Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering hosted the New Jersey Regional SeaPerch robot competition on Saturday.

The SeaPerch competition, sponsored by NavAir, Lakehurst Naval Air Warfare Center, brought in 49 teams of middle and high school students from throughout the state.

SeaPerch, an underwater robotics program, integrates science, technology, engineering and mathematics by providing students with the resources needed to construct an underwater Remotely Operated Vehicle.

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. more than 250 participants gathered in the Rowan University Recreation Center gym and pool to test their robots. Students were judged on speed, ability to navigate an obstacle course, and a question-and-answer session.

Winners of the competition will receive the opportunity to compete at the National SeaPerch competition held at Louisiana State University in May.
