Sketch Club presents magical family-oriented tale of the Old Testament

The beloved Tim Rice/Andrew Lloyd-Weber musical 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' opens at the Sketch Club Players on May 6, and runs through May 21, at the Playhouse on Glover Street in Woodbury.

The play brings to life the biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors. Joseph, his father's favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged.

When news of Joseph's gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh, Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command. Eventually his brothers unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel.

This magical family-oriented tale of the Old Testament is set to an engaging variety of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock 'n' roll. Songs include "Any Dream Will Do," "Close Every Door," and "Go Go Go Joseph."

Performance dates and times are: May 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21 at 8 p.m.; May 8, 15 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25 regular/$20 seniors.
