Glassboro emergency officials request all address numbers are up to code
GLASSBORO -- The Glassboro 9-1-1 coordinator is asking residents and business owners to ensure that their address numbers are up to borough Ordinance Chapter 183 1-4.
Each address number should be three inches or larger, be of a contrasting color than that of the residence, and placed in plain sight from the street.
Businesses are required to post the number on the front and rear doors of their property when it is in a shopping center. According to the Glassboro 9-1-1 Coordinator Sean J. Kelly, names or Post Office box numbers on mailboxes or on other parts of the building are not sufficient. There must be a physical address on the building. Additionally, multi-housing buildings must also be easily identified.
By enforcing this ordinance, township officials are trying to make the borough safer in case of emergencies. In a time of crisis, crucial time can be lost if emergency responders can't clearly identify a location.
For anyone who needs to confirm an address or has questions about the ordinance, contact Sean Kelly at Skelly@glassboro.org or 856-881-9230 Ext 88176. To access the full ordinance on numbering, visit the borough website, www.Glassboroonline.com.
