The search for new officers begins this month.
WASHINGTON TWP. -- Police in the Gloucester County town are taking applications for new officers, the department has announced on social media.
A post on the Washington Township Police Department's Facebook page says officials are looking to hire new full-time police officers and special law enforcement officers, starting this month. The department did not name a specific date for when the hiring process would begin.
Candidates for the full-time police officer position should have a bachelor's degree or the equivalent of 120 college credits, or related military or law enforcement experience. Candidates for the SLEO position should be certified by the New Jersey Police Training Commission, and have either at least 60 college credits or a minimum of two years' military experience.
Applicants can learn more and submit their email addresses at policeapp.com. Then, when the application process begins, those who signed up will receive an email notification with further instructions. This marks the first time the department has used a web-based app for hiring. Officials said Tuesday that they hoped it would streamline the process.
The deadline to apply is March 1, according to the policeapp.com posting.
