Patrolman Ryan Layton was working in the area of Railroad Avenue and Hudson Street around 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 12 when he spotted a suspicious man in the area of Broad Street School.

Layton learned the man was William H. Michael, 26, and that he was wanted on a warrant from Texas for aggravated assault in connection with a domestic violence incident.

Michael was also sought on several local warrants, police said.

When Layton tried to arrest him, Michael ran from the scene, heading toward railroad tracks at the rear of the school, according to Greenwich police.

Layton chased him down and took him into custody. School operations were not affected by the incident.

Michael was placed in Salem County Correctional Facility on $30,000 bail pending extradition to Texas.
