WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - The Washington Township Board of Education approved Stephen C. Selby as Washington Township High School's 9/10 wing executive assistant principal at its public session on Nov. 24. Selby fills the position vacated by Ann Moore, who was promoted to WTHS executive principal in October.
Selby has spent the past five-plus years as an assistant principal in the 9/10 wing. Prior to that, he was assistant principal at Chestnut Ridge Middle School from 2003-10. Before entering district administration, Selby was a health and physical education teacher at WTHS for 22 years, serving as varsity boys basketball coach from 1990-2003.
"I'm extremely happy that Mr. Selby is taking over as the 9-10 executive assistant principal," Moore said. "His many years of experience as a teacher, a middle school assistant principal and a high school assistant principal have prepared him for this new challenge. He understands the needs of both middle school and high school students and he will be dedicated to helping our students transition successfully into high school."
As executive assistant principal of the 9/10, Selby will assist Moore in providing school-wide leadership to promote educational development. His duties include: conducting discipline conferences for students in grades 9 and 10; overseeing interviews and hiring to fill professional and non-certified staff positions; overseeing the overall daily operation of the 9/10 wing, including maintenance, custodial and security staff; ensuring supervision at dances and banquets; coordinating co-curricular activities; coordinating teaching and room assignments; overseeing supervision of the alternative school; coordinating observation and evaluation of staff; assisting with development of the Master Schedule; supervising and coordinating the 9/10 academic program; and assisting with the development and administration of the annual budget.
Selby received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health and Physical Education from Glassboro State College in 1981. He earned his Master of Arts in School Leadership in 2002 from Wilmington College. Selby has principal, supervisor and administrator certificates. In addition, he is a member of the South Jersey Basketball Hall of Fame, and the Collingswood High School Hall of Fame.
