WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Washington Township High School students in Amy Carpinelli's College Prep Physics classes recently had the opportunity to take what they are learning in the classroom and apply it in a hands-on, practical sense.
The classes broke up into small groups and created mini trebuchet launchers as part of the unit on forces and projectile motion.
The students were able to use any materials they could think of to build their trebuchets, knowing that the goal was to launch a tennis ball onto a target exactly 3 meters away. All of the trebuchets used different materials, from tin cans to plant holders to even a lacrosse stick.
The teams were graded on how accurate their launchers were, as well as on how they were created. After the launch, the groups will write a report with their findings.
