WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Kathi Kersznowski's dedication to and passion for teaching about technology has netted her quite the distinction. On Aug. 15, Kersznowski, one of Washington Township's new Technology Integration Specialists, was announced as a Microsoft Innovative Educator (MIE) Expert. This prestigious honor allows Kersznowski to join the more than 4,800 educators in the MIE Expert program worldwide.

Each year, Microsoft selects innovative educators to share ideas, try new approaches and learn from each other as a global community dedicated to improving student outcomes through technology. This year, only 350 educators were chosen from throughout the United States.

"We are excited and proud of the work Mrs. Kersznowski does for our students, our staff, and our district," Superintendent of Schools Joe Bollendorf said. "It comes as no surprise to any of us in Washington Township that Kathi is being recognized as an Innovative Educator. She has been one since she started her career here. We are very fortunate to have an educator of her stature in our district and very happy for her recognition by Microsoft. It is well deserved."

As an MIE Expert, educators build their capacity for using technology in both the classroom and curriculum to improve student learning; advise Microsoft and educational institutions on how to integrate technology in pedagogically sound ways; and to be an advocate at conferences, events and trainings for how Microsoft technology can improve learning.

"I'm ecstatic!" Kersznowski said. "This is a tremendous honor and an incredible privilege. The MIE Experts are a renowned group of extraordinary educators. To be part of this active, global community will be life-changing. It brings so much opportunity - not just for me, but for our faculty and students. The MIE Expert program will immerse me in interactive learning opportunities through conferences, travel and networking via technology. I'll be beta testing new Microsoft products before they're released.

"All of these are things I will, in turn, enthusiastically share with educators and students in Washington Township, especially in my new position," she added. "Even better, I'll be encouraged to blog and give presentations about our collective experiences with using Microsoft products here in township, so our staff and students' successes will be featured in Microsoft publications, on social media, and at Ed Tech events."
