Brenna Weick will compete at the pageant in Atlantic City on Sunday Watch video
As she prepares for her big moment on national television at the Miss America pageant on Sunday, here's a look at the reigning Miss New Jersey, Brenna Weick.
Weick, 22, hails from Mantua and sat down with us for an interview in August before heading off to the Atlantic City pageant.
The aspiring journalist graduated from High Point University in North Carolina with a bachelor's degree in psychology and sang "Someone Like You" from the musical "Jekyll & Hyde" for the talent portion of the competition.
Here are some more tidbits from our interview that didn't make the story. See the video above for more:
- A true South Jerseyan, Weick calls it pork roll, not Taylor ham.
- While her pageant platform is about social media, Weick thinks New Jersey's heroin problem is among the biggest issues in the state. She has a friend who is a former addict who speaks about about the subject.
- She's a Wawa fiend -- but who isn't?
- Swimsuits are OK, she says, but to really show off how fit she is, she'd like to do pushups on stage.
- If she had to pick a superpower, Weick would fly -- so she could soar above Jersey traffic.
Watch Miss New Jersey compete at the 2017 Miss America pageant at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11 on ABC. Follow along with our live updates at nj.com/entertainment.
