Deptford couple dies in apparent murder-suicide, police say

A husband and wife died in an apparent murder-suicide this morning at a home located in the age-restricted Heritage community.

DEPTFORD TWP. -- A husband and wife died in an apparent murder-suicide this morning at a home located in the age-restricted Heritage neighborhood, the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office announced.

Police received a call at 8:17 a.m. from the husband, described only as a 67-year-old, reporting a shooting in the home.

When officers arrived at the home, located at 200 Idelwood Way, they found the husband and his wife, a 72-year-old, with gunshot wounds, authorities said.

The man was transported to Inspira Medical Center Woodbury, where he was pronounced dead at 9 a.m. The woman was taken to Cooper Medical Center, Camden, where she was pronounced dead at 9:20 a.m.

Authorities are attempting to contact family members. The incident remains under investigation by the prosecutor's office and the Deptford Police Department.

The Heritage community, located off Almonesson Road near Route 55, is limited to homeowners over age 55.
