Charlie Zimmerman and Colleen McLaughlin newest building leaders
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - Charlie Zimmerman was a man of many smiles on Wednesday morning. The first-year principal at Wedgwood Elementary School was fast with a grin for staff members, parents, students and more, as he helped usher in the 2016-17 school year in Washington Township.
Zimmerman joined Orchard Valley Middle School principal Colleen McLaughlin as the district's newest building leaders. They welcomed several hundred of the approximately 7,400 students who began anew on Wednesday. Both of those schools are among those affected by this year's redistricting plan. Zimmerman paid special attention to a group of bus riders as they arrived at their new school on opening day.
"Hey, I'm new here just like you guys are," Zimmerman said, noting that his two elementary-aged kids were moved from Wedgwood to Bells Elementary as part of redistricting. "Let's get in there and get started."
