Charles Zimmerman replaces Michael Landon, who is retiring
WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- The Washington Township Board of Education has approved the selection of Charles F. Zimmerman as the new principal at Wedgwood Elementary School. Zimmerman replaces Michael Landon, who is retiring after 35 years with the district, including the past 16 as Wedgwood's principal.
Some of Zimmerman's duties as principal will include monitoring all building functions; developing and implementing district curricula; organizing schedules; creating special education databases; mentoring new teachers; coordinating state monitoring and budget formation; and evaluating standardized testing scores.
"The District is proud and excited to add Charles Zimmerman to our team," Superintendent of Schools Joe Bollendorf said. "Charles has had a strong career in education as a teacher and administrator that we believe has prepared him immensely for this new position..."
Zimmerman, a 17-year veteran in education in the State of New Jersey, comes to Washington Township after spending the past two years as assistant principal of curriculum and instruction at West Deptford Middle School. Prior to his role in West Deptford, Zimmerman was the assistant principal for teaching and learning for two years at Haddonfield Memorial High School.
Before joining its administration, Zimmerman was a video production/digital photography/web design teacher for three years in the Haddonfield School District. He taught television production and journalism in the Pemberton School District for five years, and TV journalism and English in the Bridgeton Public Schools for five years.
Zimmerman received his bachelor of arts in communications with a minor in secondary education/English from Rowan University. He earned a master of education in educational technology from Wilmington University in 2003, and then added a master of education in educational leadership in 2007. Zimmerman owns New Jersey education certificates in teacher of television broadcasting, teacher of English, supervisor, and principal.
