Darnell Samuels, 33, is charged with murder and weapons offenses in the shooting death of Jonathan Gardner.
PAULSBORO -- The suspect in the Father's Day murder of a young dad in the borough has turned himself in to authorities, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
Darnell Samuels, 33, of Paulsboro, is facing charges of knowing or purposeful murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a firearm in the shooting death of Jonathan Gardner.
Gardner, the father of two young sons, was shot multiple times in front of his Pine Street home after a verbal altercation on June 20. He was pronounced dead about an hour later at Inspira Hospital in Woodbury.
Samuels was charged with the murder last week and police had been searching for him. Accompanied by an attorney, he turned himself in at the Gloucester County Prosecutor's office and is currently in Salem County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail.
"I want to thank the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office Major Crime and Crime Scene units, the Paulsboro Police Department, the U.S. Marshals and the Paulsboro community for their collective assistance in getting this dangerous individual off our streets," Prosecutor Sean Dalton said in a release Monday morning.
