BOE approves the appointment of Melissa Barnett

Barnett will be the district's new supervisor for Secondary Language Arts Literacy.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP - The Washington Township Board of Education has approved the appointment of Melissa Barnett as the district's new supervisor for Secondary Language Arts Literacy. Barnett replaces Robert Petrillo, who is retiring from the District after 32 years of service, the past 18 in a supervisory role. Barnett will begin her new assignment on or after July 1.

 Barnett will be responsible for providing leadership, coordination and innovation in the areas of English Language Arts (ELA) instruction in grades 6-12, assist with curriculum development, and supervise and mentor ELA teachers to ensure student growth and achievement.

The curriculum supervisor (Pre K-8) for the Gloucester Township Public Schools since 2013, Barnett was responsible for that district's program evaluation, adoption and implementation, and established a district-wide benchmark assessment plan to identify academic growth and to target instructional strategies. '

Prior to assuming her supervisory role, Barnett spent 12 years as teacher of language arts, honors language arts and social studies for grades 6-8 at the F.W. Holbein Middle School in Mount Holly.

A 1997 graduate of Lenape High School, Barnett earned a bachelor of arts degree in education with a concentration in elementary education and a minor in music from Rowan University in 2002, and a master's degree in educational leadership with a concentration in school leadership and curriculum development in 2006 from Wilmington University. She holds K-8 education, principal and supervisor certifications.
