Within the upcoming weeks several roads in Gloucester County will undergo roadwork to improve safety conditions.

It's road improvement season in Gloucester County and several towns in the area will be seeing major projects underway within the next couple of weeks.

According to county freeholder Director Robert M. Damminger, the summer months are typically a time when the county can complete road improvements with the least amount of disruption to commuting traffic.

"These projects will make our roads safer and that is our goal," he said.

Harrison Township

In Harrison Township, intersection safety improvements will be made with the installation of flashing warning signals at the intersection of Ellis Mill Road with Richwood Road and Clems Run Road.

The project is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 27 with a projected 90-day schedule for completion. During the roadwork, alternating traffic and detours will be used depending on the nature of the reconstruction during different stages of the process.

During the 90 days, the signals will be installed as well as other safety improvements including minor widening and curbing, a project with an estimated cost of $875,000.

Mantua Township

In Mantua Township, the county will be miling and resurfacing Berkley Road. The work will begin on June 27 as well starting at Harrison Avenue to Route 45. The project is estimated for completion on June 29.

Washington & Deptford township

As for County House Road, work should be completed by July 1. The roadwork will be happening from Route 41 to Blackwood-Barnsboro Road.

The work on both of these roads will consist of milling and resurfacing, and will be during the daytime from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Detours will be put in place to monitor traffic through the area. Message boards will also be on site leading up to the construction to give notice of upcoming roadwork.

"The Public Works Department is busy maintaining and improving our roadways throughout the year, but they are in high gear right now," said freeholder Heather Simmons. "We ask for the motoring public's patience and consideration to the crews as they complete this work."
