Kids educational fishing program hosts memorial tournament

200 kids, age 5 and up, are expected at the tournament

On Saturday June 11, Hooked on Fishing Not On Drugs Team Gloucester Township, will host its first annual Ray "Pop" Currey Catfish Tournament for Kids, on the Delaware River, at the RiverWinds Complex in West Deptford. Registration is at 7 a.m. Fishing begins at 8 a.m. and continues through noon. Registration, $5. For complete contest rules visit www.HOFNODGT.com.

The event was organized by the organization's leadership, to memorialize one of their first "parent" members, Currey who joined the organization with his grandson Frankie, when Director Robert Johnston first started the program in 2014.

Two hundreds kids from age 5 and up have registered to fish the tournament with the guidance of their families, hoping to catch the prize winner.

The organization has worked closely with the West Deptford Police Department during the planning phase, and the West Deptford Police Department plans to have a presentation following the tournament. Although HOFNODGT is a private nonprofit organization; it proudly upholds the sponsorship of the N.J. Department of Fish, Game, and Wildlife as well as the Township of Gloucester and many area businesses 

Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs is a private, non-profit organization that educates school aged children and their parents about the awareness and prevention of substance abuse while promoting the sport of fishing and the outdoors.
