Delaware Bay has been seeing some action on a variety of fish.
Drum are hot. Some stripers are showing up. So far, not much on bluefish. But some nice size weakfish and even some tasty kingfish are showing up.
Husted's Landing had the following report. Larry Pharo and his fishing pal came in with 2 nice weakfish - 23 and 24 inches and caught 10 more which they had to throw back.
"Perch King" Bob McCarthy had 50 perch from Back Creek.
Diane and O.D. Glenn of Franklinville had a surprise catch of two big sting rays.
Brad Phillips and son Travis of Millville fishing out of Port Norris had two drum going 52 and 70 pounds.
Checked with Captain Mike Rothman of the "Bonanza II". He said drum fishing has been good with most of the fleet in Fortescue concentrating on drum fish down the bay.
He told me he has been in double figures every trip and most of the boats are doing the same. A 74 pounder is his biggest. He also said they are catching a few nice size weakfish.
The "Girls Place" in Port Elizabeth said they are having a nice mixture of drum, stripers and a few weakfish and now some kingfish are showing up. Now all we need is for the flounder to show up in the bay.
MAURICE RIVER NEWS
Talked to a few anglers fishing in the Maurice River.
At the Fowser Road Boat Dock in Millville, two anglers had caught 14 small stripers, quite a few perch and 5 catfish. All on blood worms and night crawlers.
Up the river farther in Millville near the city park it is the same story.
And below Union Lake Dam one fellow had caught 16 perch, 5 catfish and 9 small stripers mostly on bloodworms.
Haven't heard any news from down at Laurel Lake or Mauricetown area.
ALONG THE COAST
They are catching everything along the coast. Black drum, stripers, bluefish and some weakfish and kingfish are showing up.
But the big news is the arrival of summer flounder. They are catching flounder in all of the back bays and inlets and some big ones up to 9 pounds hitting the scales. Let's hope the big and plentiful have arrived.
