Elizabeth Heggan invented the Happy Helper Lunch Box
Glassboro third-grader Elizabeth Heggan captured second place in her division at the May 20 Regional Student Inventions Through Education (SITE) Contest. Elizabeth invented the Happy Helper Lunch Box. The "Happy Helper" enables parents to record their own voice message to send to school or camp in their child's lunch box. The contest was held was held at the FAA Technical Center in Egg Harbor Township by the Education Information and Resource Center (EIRC).
Elizabeth's project impressed the judges so much that she was invited to return to the FAA Technical Center to present her project to a professional group called the Human Factor & Ergonomics South Jersey Chapter.
Heggan attends Dorothy L. Bullock School and is a member of the school's Gifted and Talented Program, which is led by teacher Mary Aruffo.
Prior to placing second in the Regional SITE Contest, Elizabeth won the Dorothy L. Bullock School Third-Grade Invention Competition.
Her classmates Willow Heckert and Hanna Juma also won the school's competition and competed at the regional contest. Willow invented the Slip-N-Side Sneaker, and Hanna invented the Go Go Girl Scout (Vest). All three girls researched, created and presented their projects.
