Kelly Mae Hemphill faces robbery charges stemming from a November 2015 incident in which a man was robbed while being strangled. Watch video
DEPTFORD TWP. -- The woman whose heroin overdose and subsequent Narcan revival was caught on a viral video, was arrested Tuesday on an bench warrant charge and had crack cocaine in her possession, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.
Kelly Mae Hemphill, also known as Kelmae Hemphill, 25, landed on the county's most wanted list last week when she failed to make a court appearance on a November robbery charge. She is accused of stealing an Iphone 6 and $270 from a man in Paulsboro as Nicholas Aguilar, 27, strangled the man with a cord and threatened him with a ratchet.
The prosecutor's office received information this week that Hemphill was living on Dumont Street in Deptford and officers took her into custody there without incident. She had crack cocaine on her at the time and has subsequently been charged with a controlled dangerous substance offense, the prosecutor's office said.
She is charged with first degree robbery, second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and third-degree theft. She had been arrested on the charge on Nov. 13, 2015 and was indicted on the charges on April 20, but failed to appear at a May 2 arraignment.
Hemphill's overdose, which was captured on a nine-minute video, occurred on the side of Route 44 between West Deptford and Paulsboro. Police at the time said she and her brother were on their way to their Paulsboro home from buying drugs in Camden when it happened. Her brother attempted CPR and a police officer revived her with the opiate-antidote Narcan before she was brought to a hospital.
Two weeks later her mother had announced that she was headed to rehab in Florida.
