A new '100 Club' banner was unveiled for players who have scored 100 career goals

NEWFIELD -- In a heartfelt presentation during Our Lady of Mercy Academy's first annual Pride Day on May 21, Head Coach Tom McCarville led the OLMA Lacrosse Team in unveiling a new "100 Club" banner in honor of players who have scored 100 career goals in the nine-year history of the sport at the all-girls high school.

As the new banner revealed, the first three members of the 100 Goal Club include: Nicole Covella, Class of 2009, Lauren Hartman (Class of 2011) and Caitlyn Covella, (Class of 2013).  The current team, a winner over Winslow Township High School earlier during the day, looked on as Coach McCarville highlighted the players' accomplishments.

Nicole Covella began playing in her sophomore year and was part of the original OLMA Lacrosse team in 2007. In three seasons and just 40 games played, Covella scored 100 goals, had 16 assists and contributed 116 total points. She was selected to the Senior All-Star South Jersey team in 2009 and went on to play Division II College Lacrosse at Chestnut Hill University, where she was a top scorer for the Griffins.

Lauren Hartman, also a three-season player, completed her OLMA Lacrosse days with 171 Goals and 20 assists.  She contributed 191 points in breaking the school record.  She was selected as OLMA's first-ever 1st Team All-Cape-Atlantic All-League player. Hartman went on to play College Lacrosse for Philadelphia University and was a top player and scorer for its Division II Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship team.

After years of watching her big sister play, Caitlyn Covella joined the OLMA Lacrosse team in 2010. By 2013, Covella was known as one of the Cape-Atlantic League's top stars and OLMA's player to stop. Even a torn ACL suffered prior to her senior season could not keep her off the field in what would be a record-shattering season that saw her score 57 goals while dishing out 32 assists for 89 points. She played 62 games in four years at OLMA and hit the 100-goal mark in her junior season, eventually surpassing Hartman's OLMA record. Covella was honored as an "Academic All American" by U.S. Lacrosse. She ended her  OLMA  Lacrosse career with 174 career goals,  73 assists and 247 points -- making her the top player in OLMA Lacrosse history.

Prior to the banner presentation, team players recognized McCarville with the day's game ball and then joined him and Coach Jerry Covella in the unveiling.
