Each year upon returning to school a contest is held for the staff of Pleasant Valley School in Mullica Hill. It's a nice way of welcoming the staff back.
The secretaries in the main office love to promote good morale by hosting events and over the years have been fondly nick named Lucy and Ethel.
This year at the end of the school year a photo of Flat Lucy and Ethel (similar to Flat Stanley) was distributed and staff took the photo on vacation with them.
On Sept. 18 Pleasant Valley School staff celebrated with school secretaries, Pat Acton (Lucy) and Cathy Porter (Ethel), as winners of the Flat Lucy and Ethel contest were announced.
Kathleen Upshur, speech therapist, was the grand prize winner, after staff voted on over 160 photo submissions. The winning photo was actually taken under water snorkeling in Mexico.
The photos pictured Flat Lucy and Ethel traveling all over the world, as far as Abu Dhabi. The runners up included teachers/staff members, Colleen Barlage, Lea Shapiro, Heather Pompper, Lauren Sheppard and AnnaMarie Mason. The Pleasant Valley School main office was decorated with a tree of life and a jungle theme.
Lucy and Ethel hosted the event in full Safari gear as the the staff gear up for another fantastic school year.
