St. James High School's last class graduated in 2000. Now an alumni association is being formed.
CARNEYS POINT TWP. -- For some it had been decades since they walked the halls of what was St. James High School.
On Sunday they returned for a special Mass at the former school building on Georgetown Road in Carneys Point.
The event was organized to help kick off the new alumni association being formed for St. James graduates.
In the school gym, where the Mass was held, former students, teachers and members of the administration gathered.
After the Mass, there were tours of the building and refreshments.
St. James High School was closed in 2000. Afterwards the building served as Bishop Guilfoyle Regional School for students up to grade 8 before it also closed.
Ownership has remained with the Diocese of Camden and it is under the control of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish.
Parish personnel are now using the St. James building for office space and as a parish center, and are planning to offer alumni the opportunity to use the building if needed, officials say.
