Paul Halley writes that The Freedom from Religion Foundation is practicing an alternate religion, and it's not a good one.
To the Editor:
The Freedom from Religion Foundation (FFRF), which has attacked a motto in a Borough of Clayton official seal that contains the word "pray," is unmistakably intolerant.
The United States was founded on the Judeo-Christian religion of objective history and and a belief in God that has provided a society with the greatest freedom, prosperity, innovation and tolerance that the world has ever seen.
Everyone has a "religion," whether they have a name for it or not. Everyone has an object or person that they hold to be of ultimate value. It is this object or person that determines why the person does what he or she does.
What I call "postmodern religion"is the foundation of groups like FFRF, and it has become the de-facto religion of our government schools. Postmodern religion denies that there is a personal god and that there is any right or wrong. It states that things just are, and each person must decide for himself or herself what is right or wrong.
In early America, the mission of the school was understood to be to learn how to glorify and enjoy God, and how to serve your fellow man. Under postmortem religion, the mission has been changed to something like "The mission of this school is to help the child realize their full potential."
This extremely self-centered mission gives the child the idea that he or she is expected to build his or her kingdom on Earth without regard to God, and to learn how to tolerate others so that they can help build this kingdom.
This always leads to a violent, degraded society. We must grant poor families the freedom to have their children educated according to the truth of the eternal loving God.

Stow Creek
A pick for Monroe's 2nd Ward
To the Editor:
I would like to offer my strong support for Joseph Kurz for the Democrats' Ward 2 nomination for the Monroe Township Council.
I have known Kurz since childhood. He grew from a nice young man into an honorable adult. He has always been willing to help people by lending his support, either emotionally or physically. I witnessed him becoming a wonderful husband and father, a true family man.
During his lifetime as a Williamstown resident, Kurz has shared good ideas and dreams that he has to make things better. I always thought that when he had the time to dedicate to public service, he would do so. His town and the people in it have always been special to him.
Please join me and many others who are supporting Joe Kurz in the June 7 Democratic primary election.

Editor's note: In the June 7 Democratic primary, Kurz faces incumbent Ward 2 Councilman Rich DiLucia. No Republicans filed to run for this Ward 2 seat.
