Construction crews hit the gas line around 10:40 am. Wednesday.
GLASSBORO -- A gas leak forced a daycare and 12 homes to be evacuated and 40 residents to shelter in place in the borough Wednesday morning.
Contractors working on the gas lines of South Main Street hit a six-inch line, releasing natural gas, according to Glassboro's Emergency Management Director Jack Manning.
Students at the Glassboro Child Development Center and residents in the area were evacuated to the Dorothy Bullock School and those living in MSAA Manor were asked to shelter in place until the situation was resolved.
A hazardous materials team and the Glassboro Fire Department inspected the homes for gas before allowing residents to return about an hour after the evacuation.
Multiple roads were closed in the borough as well, and remain closed to traffic as of Wednesday afternoon.
