Darren McMahon is consider an imbedded social worker at the hospital
WOODBURY -- Darren McMahon, MSW, LCSW, Adolescent Behavioral Health, was chosen by Inspira Medical Center Woodbury as the Employee of the Month for January 2016. This Woodbury resident was recognized for his work ethic, positive attitude, and outstanding job performance.
McMahon, the primary therapist and senior clinician for the Adolescent Behavioral Health program and a per diem counselor for the Wellness and Recovery Program for adults, is proud to be considered an imbedded social worker -- a clinician who serves the community where he lives. He joined Inspira in 2010.
After attaining his psychology degree from Widener University, McMahon received some valuable career advice to pursue graduate work in social work if he wanted a career in counseling.
While he was studying for his master's degree at Rutgers-Camden, he first worked as a mental health tech for Inspira Woodbury's Adult Partial Hospital program and then received a promotion to psychiatric case manager for the inpatient Behavioral Health unit. When he finished his master's degree, McMahon received another promotion to serve as the psychiatric social worker for the unit.
The adolescents in the program, between the ages of 12-18, attend two hours of classroom study and then the remaining day is group therapy. If students recognize that they could benefit from some one-on-one therapy, McMahon or the other therapist provides that counseling.
