Concert offers music by Finzi, Debussy, MacDowell and Brahms
St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, 230 N. Evergreen Ave., Woodbury, celebrates spring on Sunday, March 20, at 3 p.m. with a concert of classical piano and flute music.
Flautist Amy Shimmin, of Westmont and pianist David Anderson, of Pittsgrove have chosen a wide array of compositions by Gerald Finzi, Claude Debussy, Edward MacDowell and Johannes Brahms, and have invited vocal guests bass-baritone Justin Henry of Paulsboro, Benjamin Wilner of West Deptford, and Patricia Januszewski of Mickleton to assist in their program. Associate in Ministry Lawrence De Pasquale will accompany the singers. A very special guest will also make an appearance.
Diana Bensel, from the parish, is hosting a light buffet reception in the lower level Fellowship Room following the performance.
This performance is offered in memory of educator William Shimmin, who among his many musical contributions to the locale, taught choral music at Sterling High School in Stratford for many years. It is his Yamaha Conservatory Grand piano which currently resides in the church's choir loft, at the direction of his daughter, Amy.
This program is open to the parish community free of charge. No offering will be received. For more information, contact Lawrence De Pasquale, cantor of the parish, at 856-582-9050.
