Police rescued two men from the Delaware River Thursday afternoon.

NATIONAL PARK -- Two men were rescued from the Delaware River after an afternoon canoe trip ended with one of them in the water Thursday.

Marine Units were dispatched to the river just before 5 p.m. for a water rescue, according to West Deptford Police Chief Sam DiSimone.

One of the two males in the canoe had flipped out into the water and was unable to get back into the boat, he added.

Why have deaths spiked in the Delaware River?

The 23 and 24-year-old men, who remain unidentified by police, were both taken to a local hospital to be checked for possible hypothermia.

A dog that was also in the canoe jumped out and swam to shore before rescue personnel arrived.

The area is a popular location for small boats and jet skis to enter the water.
