Gloucester County celebrates Read Across America with Seuss classics

Deptford Township's mayor took part in the annual tradition.

DEPTFORD TWP. -- Township Mayor Paul Medany read to kids Tuesday morning as part of the annual Read Across America program.

Medany visited Deptford Township Library for the event, which celebrates to work of Dr. Seuss.

Joining the mayor was the Chick-Fil-A cow mascot, in honor of the Seuss classic, "Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You?

Schools celebrate Dr. Seuss

As its name implies, Read Across America is a national event held each March to get kids excited about reading. Local officials and other community members are invited into schools and other venues to share Seuss stories with children.

The National Education Association began the program in 1997 to coincide with the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, who died in 1991.
