Four people were displaced when their Harrisonville Road home was consumed by flames Feb. 13, 2016.
WOOLWICH TWP. — A township home was destroyed and four people were displaced by a fire on Saturday afternoon.
Woolwich Deputy Fire Chief David Valichka said firefighters were first called to the Harrisonville Road home at 12:39 p.m. Multiple agencies, including the Daretown, Ewan and Harrisonville fire companies responded. Responders had to bring out tanker trucks because there are no hydrants on the country road.
The firefighters worked in bitter cold, with whipping winds hindering the effort to quell the flames. Ice coated the pavement beneath trucks and encased the trees in the home's front yard. By the time the blaze was declared under control around 3:45 p.m., the interior of the house had collapsed.
Two adults and two children were receiving help from the Red Cross. They were reported to be staying with family.
No civilians or firefighters were injured, though the family's pets were not believed to have survived. The Gloucester County Fire Marshal's office was investigating the cause Saturday evening.
No further information was immediately available.
