Kingsway Regional School District is asking voters to approve a $12 million referendum for improvements to its track and athletic fields.

WOOLWICH TWP. -- Kingsway Regional School district is asking voters in its four sending districts to approve a $12 million bond referendum for improvements to its athletic facilities and to build a new transportation garage.

The referendum is split into two questions. The first, worth $9.98 million,

includes two new turf fields, a new eight-lane track and a new maintenance garage for the district's buses and other vehicles.

District officials say the referendum is necessary because its current six-lane track has been condemned for meet use by the NJSIAA.

A second proposal, worth $1.9 million, will add a new track and field and band house and expand the existing athletic field's house building.

If both are approved, taxes will go up between $68.83 and $117.83 for the owner of an average home in one of the four towns that send to Kingsway.

NJ.com readers were split on whether the proposal is a good idea or a waste of money. Take our poll and let us know what you think in the comments.

Sounds awesome to me. $100 a year is well worth it.

If the death track was so dangerous, why were activities still held on it?  The football team used it for pre-season testing. I was at football games and never once saw a cheerleader carted away in an ambulance.  Did administration put our delicate little flowers in danger?  Sounds like we have track envy.  Well,,,,, the other schools have 8 lane tracks.  Will we have to move our brand new bleachers back for an 8 lane track?  It wasn't so long ago that our bleachers were condemned when the were in good condition.  All that was needed was to add some wheel chair ramps.  Stop the madness

Synthetic turf has not been ruled as being safe yet.

Why is the district in the business of maintaining buses? This should be outsourced.
