The defendant faces 8 years in prison for second-degree sexual assault.

WOODBURY -- A Williamstown man has pleaded guilty to sexual assault of a child multiple times over a 6-year period, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office.

Michael A. Ferrer, 33, pleaded guilty Monday to second-degree sexual assault, admitting that he had sexual contact with a child under age 13 in Clayton on various dates between August 2007 and May 2013.

As part of the negotiated plea, Assistant Prosecutor Joseph More will recommend an 8-year prison sentence with parole ineligibility for 85 percent of that term.

Ferrer will also face at least 15 years of parole supervision after his release from prison and must register as a sex offender, prosecutors said.

Superior Court Judge M. Christine Allen-Jackson accepted the plea deal and delayed sentencing until Ferrer is evaluated at the state Adult Diagnostic and Treatment Center, a facility for sex offenders in Avenel.

If he is found to be a repetitive and compulsive offender, Ferrer may end up serving his term at that facility while undergoing treatment.
