It may just wearing a purple tee shirt on a specific day or a hand-painted Chinese symbol on your wrist, but Delsea Regional High School DECA students want you to show your acceptance. In an effort to get out this very important message to their school community, DECA students, Paige Starr and Brianna Waller, joined their DECA forces with the Delsea Gay/Straight Alliance this year, for a public relations campaign to "Show Acceptance."
Through a constant presence of committed DECA and GSA members in community and school events, such as: Franklinvile's Community Day, football games, Dancing with the Staff, fundraisers, etc, Starr and Waller remained committed to their message to the Delsea community.
New Jersey DECA president and current Delsea high school senior, Destini Clark stated: "It's hard enough to be a high school student today without the biases and prejudices of others, interfering with what we are here for: getting an education and becoming better citizens."
Campaign co-coordinator, Paige Starr commented, "We want to be the generation that changes the face of hate, by creating positive connection of acceptance. If the DECA students show their acceptance of others through their actions and words, maybe others will start to do the same."
And so started the trend by DECA and GSA students, to adorn the purple apparel and accessories, to share the smile to an unfamiliar face in the hallways, and to show kindness whenever possible. In an effort to get even more awareness to the school community, Starr and Waller commandeered the schools main entrance showcase and communicated one simple message: "Peace. Love. Acceptance."
